Should an Executive Consider an Advanced Degree Franchise?
Spoiler alert - the answer, taken from my own experience, is an emphatic YES!
I loved the career I had before deciding to own my own business. I developed expertise across multiple disciplines (finance, marketing, strategy, ops, technology and even politics) and was always comfortable financially. I got to design, launch, and grow organizations from the ground up, and thoroughly enjoyed helping the talented people I hired build successful careers of their own.
So, while I look back on my 26 years in the corporate world with great affection, I’m most proud of what I’ve built with Advanced Degree Carpet Cleaning. In part, it’s the difference between hunting for your dinner versus being fed by others. It’s the exhilaration you feel “working without a net” when you take a chance and it pays off. It’s about being 100% accountable for every decision and every outcome, good or bad.
Each year we’ve set aggressive growth goals, and each year we’ve hit them. Along the way I’ve made some mistakes, but learned from them and improved the business as a result. Our consistent growth has validated the unique super-premium approach I took in delivering our services. I’m proud of the reputation we’ve earned and how happy we’ve made our customers. I’m thrilled to be working with an incredible team and am excited to witness their personal growth. Only an entrepreneur gets to know how good this feels!
And I’ve loved it!
There’s another important item that should encourage MBAs, senior execs and middle managers to consider becoming an Advanced Degree franchise owner. The carpet, tile and upholstery cleaning market is huge but highly fragmented. The biggest company only has a 4% share, and 80% of all companies have four or fewer employees. In a sector with underperforming copycats galore, our unique approach wins. In short, this is a blue ocean opportunity waiting to be seized.
This differentiation strategy came from the kind of thinking that is learned through success in the corporate world, and as we grow our franchise network, we want as much of that as we can find. By bringing in highly intelligent, motivated people, we’ll continue to enhance our collective strategic advantage. With the unique perspectives they bring from their own careers, franchise owners will be a big part of brand development going forward.
Finally, you may have noticed that the pictures above are from the beach. Owning my own business allowed me to live where I wanted, and not “where the company was.” I chose to live in a gorgeous coastal resort area (picture on the left), and the success we’ve had still enables me to take my family on the kind of trips that are important to us (Costa Rica in the picture on the right). All of this is waiting for you. Bring your executive expertise to build your own business; hunt for your dinner instead of waiting for others to feed you, and experience freedom and pride in a way you never imagined.
